Residents of Continental Heights Condominium and Taman Gembira, near Old Klang Road, were told last week they needed signatures from 80% of households for their petition to halt the road development to receive consideration.
Since their meeting with DBKL last Tuesday, they managed to get 139 signatures from residents in Taman Gembira and 154 signatures from those in Continental Heights Condominium, and submitted their updated petition to DBKL this morning along.
They were accompanied by a representative from the Global Environment Centre.
The road is being built to service the newly completed 737 Residensi Gembira. According to the residents, the destruction of the green land to make way for the road poses a landslide threat to the condominium, and that the road would create noise pollution and traffic congestion if allowed to finish, affecting the property value in the area.

The representative for the Continental Heights Condominium Residents’ Association, Yeo Heng Foo, told FMT that “since we have obtained more than 80% signatures from both our condo and Taman Gembira as requested by DBKL within a week, we strongly urge DBKL to stop the construction of the road”.
Yeo also backed earlier proposals to turn the cleared land into a recreational area for residents.
Tamil Wanan, the representative for the Taman Gembira residents, said he hopes their application garners “serious consideration” given they have met the criteria given to them, and thinks a recreational area would be beneficial for both communities.
“Any solution needs to be in Continental Heights Condominium’s interest, too. It would need to be a holistic solution that suits both communities.
“A recreation area would be very beneficial for all the residents, especially the aging residents who would get a place to exercise and even do some gardening.”
Both residents’ associations hope for a speedy response, as work on the road is ongoing despite their numerous meetings and protests.
