KUCHING:
Sarawak police are investigating a woman for allegedly assisting four Indonesian women to flee after they tested positive for Covid-19 at a private hospital in Sibu.

Sarawak police commissioner Aidi Ismail said the woman claimed she didn’t know the foreigners and only helped them to return to their hometown in Entikong, West Kalimantan, Indonesia.

“We’ll investigate the case further and record her statement once she completes quarantine,” he told reporters today.

Aidi said the woman had been placed under quarantine by the Health Department as she was in close contact with the four positive cases.

He said initial investigations revealed that the four women had travelled from Sibu to Serian on Wednesday, and are believed to have returned to Indonesia via “jalan tikus” along the Sarawak-West Kalimantan border in Serian.

Aidi said the authorities had started contact tracing, including passengers who shared the same bus with the four women in a six-hour bus journey.

The four had undergone swab tests at a private hospital on Dec 15 and their results came back positive on Wednesday. A police report was lodged on the same day after health authorities failed to trace and admit them to hospital.
