SHAH ALAM:
Selangor frontliners are to get a special tourism package voucher worth RM200 each next year, the state government announced today.

Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said a total of 3,000 frontliners from various sectors and departments would enjoy the benefit.

Amirudin said the incentive was part of the state economic recovery plan which included a tourism aid package with a total allocation of RM2.6 million.

Of that amount, RM2 million has been allocated for the “Selangor Tourism Voucher” subsidy programme for 10,000 applicants.

“In honouring the frontliners, the state government is offering 3,000 of these vouchers to Selangor’s frontliners combatting Covid-19 in the state,” he said after launching a state tourism campaign.

The public can purchase the remaining 7,000 vouchers online on a first come first served basis and enjoy the cheaper tourism packages.

“The voucher will be offered in Touch ‘n Go e-wallet and Lazada starting from Jan 8 until June 30, 2021,” he said.

Selangor exco member in charge of environment Hee Loy Sian said a total of 43 industry players – such as hotel and theme park operators – would participate in the voucher programme as merchants.

“This is to help them recover from the impact of Covid-19 and the subsequent movement restrictions,” he told reporters.

Further, a total of RM553,000 will be given as a one-off incentive to 553 industry players comprising 486 members of the Selangor Tourist Guides’ Association, 16 homestay coordinators authorised by the tourism ministry and 51 Selangor community hosts.

Hee said the state government expected to receive an estimated five million tourists in 2021.
