Refer Prabakaran for quarantine breach, say MPs

Backbenchers want the Batu MP to face the Rights and Privileges Committee.

Batu MP P Prabakaran voted when he was supposed to be on home surveillance order last Thursday.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Several government MPs have called for P Prabakaran (PH-Batu) to be referred to Parliament’s Rights and Privileges Committee for allegedly violating a quarantine order by attending the Dewan Rakyat sitting last Thursday.

Shahidan Kassim (BN-Arau) said Prabakaran’s presence was in violation of his home surveillance order and endangered the other MPs in the house.

His call to refer Prabakaran to the committee was supported by other backbenchers, including Noh Omar (BN-Tanjung Karang).

Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun said he would look into the matter before making a decision.

“I did not realise it happened. After reviewing our list of votes, Yang Berhormat (Prabakaran) voted.

“As I have said before, the power to punish or compound anyone who violates the National Security Council or health ministry’s Covid-19 orders is not under my authority,” he said.
