IPOH: Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi arrived at Istana Kinta here this morning for an audience with Sultan Nazrin Shah.
The car carrying Zahid arrived at the palace at 9.50am, and it is understood that this second meeting is for him to hand over the name of the finalised candidate from Umno for the menteri besar’s post.
Minutes later, a vehicle ferrying Perak Umno chairman Saarani Mohamad was also seen entering the palace grounds.
The Kota Tampan assemblyman is expected to be nominated as the new menteri besar to replace Ahmad Faizal Azumu, who was ousted after losing the confidence of the state assembly last week.
Saarani was also reportedly present during Umno’s Supreme Council meeting last night.
On Saturday, Zahid had an audience with the sultan to present the results of discussions at a special meeting with state Umno leaders the night before.
