RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) cited the developments in the Perak state assembly last week, where then menteri besar Ahmad Faizal Azumu lost the confidence of the house in a confidence motion.
“A motion was submitted in Perak. That motion was brought forward, debated and voted on. Meanwhile, in this house, I believe there are 16 no-confidence motions against Pagoh (Muhyiddin). Some are from Pejuang and Amanah.
“The question on people’s minds and mine is if the Perak state assembly can debate and give the motion of confidence priority, can’t we debate this motion (of no-confidence in Muhyiddin) and bring it to a vote?” he said in the Dewan Rakyat today.
Sim Tze Tzin (PH-Bayan Baru) asked Dewan Rakyat speaker Azhar Azizan Harun to fast-track the no-confidence motion against Muhyiddin.
However, Azhar said he did not know which rule under the Standing Orders was utilised by the Perak state assembly speaker to bring forward the confidence motion in the proceeding’s agenda.
“I’m not sure about the Standing Orders used in each state assembly. But my decision all this while to not bring the motion forward is not at my own whim.
“I have studied this in-depth and I am ready to elaborate on it,” he said, adding that he was not tied down by the actions of speakers in other states.
Faizal resigned as Perak menteri besar on Saturday after losing the confidence of the state assembly in the confidence motion submitted by Umno’s assemblyman for Pengkalan Baru, Abdul Manaf Hashim.
Forty-eight assemblymen voted against the motion, 10 supported Faizal and one abstained.
