The 25-year-old man had allegedly given RM5 to the girl after raping her so that she would not tell her family about the incident, which happened in Inanam on Wednesday.
City police chief Habibi Majinji said the girl had left home at 8.30am to go to her aunt’s house just a stone’s throw away.
She was walking back home when she was stopped by the man.
He said the man offered the girl some sweets and told her to follow him, adding that the man then led her to a hut in a wooded area, about 300m from the girl’s house.
“When the girl wanted to go home, the man pulled out a knife,” he said, when contacted.
“After the rape, the man let her go and gave her RM5 so that she would not tell her family,” Habibi said.
The family found out about the incident when the girl came home crying. A medical check later confirmed the girl had been raped.
Following a police report, the man was arrested at the Tuaran bypass in Inanam the next day.
“The man also tested positive for methamphetamine,” he said, adding the hut was used by the man to consume drugs.
