Putrajaya’s refusal to disclose MA63 final report shocking, says SUPP

GPS component party says PN government must be transparent in solving matters relating to the Malaysia Agreement 1963.

A youth leader from Sarawak’s ruling coalition says Putrajaya is trying to conceal the MA63 report and sweep it under the rug.
KUCHING:
SUPP, a component of the ruling Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), has urged the federal government to make public the findings by the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) Special Cabinet Committee.

SUPP Youth secretary-general Milton Foo said he was shocked at Sabah and Sarawak Affairs Minister Maximus Ongkili’s refusal to disclose the final report.

“Is this a collective decision made by the federal cabinet or the Special Cabinet Committee? Has this decision passed through the Parliament?” he said in a statement.

“The mere contention of the federal government to claim that the said final report as ‘carrying official secret status’ or on ‘technicality issues’ has no legal basis,” he said.

Foo added that all Malaysians, especially Sarawakians, had a right to know the details of the final report and the implementations of MA63.

“Otherwise, how are we supposed to know the progress, namely what has been reviewed and implemented?”

He also dismissed any notion of the document being a matter of national security, thus needing it to be kept a secret.

Foo accused Putrajaya of trying to conceal the report and “sweep it under the rug.”

“That would be an act of denial and encroachment on the rights of Sabahans and Sarawakians in their legitimate expectation on the outcome of the final report.

“We must hold on to the MA63 as it granted the people from the two states, their fundamental rights as Sabahans and Sarawakians for many more generations to come,” he said, urging the PN government to be transparent in solving matters relating to MA63.
