PETALING JAYA:
Finisar Malaysia has responded to allegations of racism and mismanagement by a former worker who crashed his car into a section of its Ipoh facility and threw a Molotov cocktail into the management office before being fatally struck by a lorry.

In a statement today, Finisar vice-president for corporate communications Mark Lourie expressed the company’s condolence to the man’s family and said the company was committed to ensuring a fair work environment.

In a video that surfaced on social media following the incident, the man said he had been dealing with depression and stress since his termination and made allegations of mismanagement and racism at the company.

“We are aware of comments that were posted on social media and we would like to assure everyone that we are committed to a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace, where every employee has an opportunity for advancement based on merit.

“Finisar Malaysia employs more than 3,500 people and we are proud of the diversity of our workforce. As one of the largest employers in Ipoh, we also have strong partnerships with local suppliers and strong ties with the local community.”

He added that they were “fully cooperating” with the relevant authorities who had opened an investigation into the incident.

Lourie said Finisar would continue to provide the public with updates on the investigation as it got them so long as it didn’t jeopardise the ongoing case or the privacy of the deceased’s family.
