KOTA BHARU: A senior lecturer has been arrested for opening fire with a pump gun for which he did not have a licence.
General Operations Force 8th Battalion commanding officer Supt Muhammad Shamsuddin said the man, in his 40s, was nabbed by a GOF team on patrol near a padi field at about 3pm yesterday in Kampung Tasek Berangan, near Repek, Pasir Mas.
The suspect had alighted from a Mitsubishi Pajero before shooting with the pump gun towards the direction of the padi field.
Police seized the Turkey-made pump gun, an amount of live ammunition and the car.
Shamsuddin said the man, who is with a public higher learning institution, did not have a firearm licence.
