KUALA LUMPUR:
The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Abdul Hamid Bador, visited former prime minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi today to brief Abdullah about the status of investigations into a false social media account of the latter’s death about three months ago.

Abdul Hamid spent about an hour with Abdullah and his wife, Jeanne Abdullah, at their residence here.

Jeanne said her husband, who turns 81 on Nov 26, is in good health. “Tun (Abdullah) always walks around the house garden, he is okay,” she said.

Abdul Hamid told Bernama he had taken the responsibility to update Abdullah in person about the investigation.

He said the author of the article and another person who shared the article had been interviewed.

“We found that there was no ill intention over what had been written … it was a miscommunication, an oversight. We took action by calling the author of the article, and there is nothing (further to probe), no case,” he said.

The other person who spread the news had thought it was genuine, and had no intention to slander or embarrass anyone, Abdul Hamid said. He urged the public not to spread any report that was not authentic.

Abdullah’s special officer Jefridin Atan had lodged a report in August after social media postings on Abdullah’s death appeared twice within the span of a week.
