43 arrested for inter-district, inter-state travel without permission

Breaching CMCO SOPs sees 568 people detained by police, including 131 at entertainment centres.

PETALING JAYA:
Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob says 568 people were arrested by the police yesterday for offences related to the movement control order (MCO), including 43 for travelling between districts or states without permission.

Of these, 516 have been fined, 49 remanded and three granted bail.

The majority of them were punished for failing to record customers’ personal details when entering shops (56), not wearing a mask (116) and not practising physical distancing (160).

Some 131 individuals were also arrested at entertainment centres.

The authorities also detained 42 undocumented migrants yesterday as part of the ongoing Ops Benteng campaign.

“The government will take strict action against anyone trying to enter the country illegally and enforcement agencies will continue to tighten our border control,” he said in a statement today.
