PETALING JAYA:
Brickfields Asia College (BAC) Education Group has won an Asean Business Award for the education institution’s Covid-19-related initiatives in the Southeast Asia region.

The Asean Business Awards 2020 was held online yesterday and this particular award seeks to honour businesses who have made crucial contributions to Covid-19 prevention measures.

BAC managing director Raja Singham said the award served as a reminder for the education group to continue and increase its efforts to combat the pandemic, adding that it was humbling to receive the accolade.

“This award goes to all the heroes who have helped us reach out to aid those in need during this pandemic.

“I would also like to thank the millions of frontliners across the Asean region, who are working around the clock to keep us safe. Your courage, tenacity, and sacrifice inspire us,” he said in a statement today.

Among BAC’s initiatives during the pandemic are assisting numerous NGOs and community leaders in raising funds and dispensing aid to those in need through GiveBACk.my.

The fundraiser raised more than RM136,500 for various causes, benefiting about 4,800 individuals.

It also worked with NGOs to provide employment opportunities for the special needs community, including allotting a space on its university premises for the operations of Tender Hearts Cafe, a social enterprise mainly run by persons with disabilities.

Through BACflix, more than 175,000 students are studying online for free while 10,000 Malaysians are being reskilled and upskilled for free as well through Project Deep, another BAC initiative.

BAC also pledged to retain all of its staff without any pay cuts during the pandemic, while providing activities to maintain the mental and physical wellbeing of employees.

“For student welfare, BAC’s quick response to the pandemic allowed students (from Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong) to seamlessly transition from face-to-face classes to online learning, thus preventing any disruption of their studies,” Raja Singham said.
