Affectionately known as Uncle Kentang, his organisation, Community Policing Malaysia (CPM), today launched its eighth ambulance to transport the needy around Klang Valley.
“We plan to launch four more ambulances, maybe next year. The next one will be in the Pengerang area in Johor as the distance to Johor Bahru is quite far.
“Eventually, we hope to launch these ambulances across Malaysia,” he said.

Kuan bought the ambulances for RM150,000 with donations from the NGO’s Facebook supporters.
Community Policing Malaysia also has eight hearses for those in need and has set up a taxi service to transport the sick to medical facilities and back.
Kuan said many lower-income households choose not to seek medical attention because of prohibitive travel costs, which is where the NGO’s ambulances come in.
He said such services help those in lower-income households receive early intervention so they can avoid more costly medical treatment in the future.

He also said the ambulances will be used to transport those from neighbouring states who have to travel to the Klang Valley for specialist treatment.
Noting that the cost to hire an ambulance from Kuala Lumpur to Terengganu is RM2,000, Kuan said his ambulances help provide transport for those who want to live out their last days in their hometowns.
“If your parents are on their deathbed and have a last wish they want fulfilled, like perhaps going back to their hometown, but cannot do it because of cost, you’ll regret it for the rest of your life.
“Call me. I’ll arrange the transport,” he said.
