PETALING JAYA: An 800kg crocodile caught near a school in Limbang was euthanised today due to gunshot wounds in its head.
“A member of the public had shot it in the head before the Limbang Fire and Rescue Department could reach the crocodile,” Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC) CEO Zolkipli Mohamad Aton was quoted as saying in The Star.
“We at SFC are investigating who shot the crocodile,” he said.
The 5m reptile was caught in a drain near SK St Edmund in Limbang yesterday, after which it was discovered that it had been shot.
The crocodile has been sent to a nature sanctuary in the town’s outskirts to be buried.
