Seven heli crash witnesses give statements to police

20 others to be called up, and police urge the public not to spread photographs or videos of the crash.

KUALA LUMPUR:
Police have recorded statements from seven witnesses to facilitate investigations into the helicopter crash that resulted in the death of two people in Taman Melawati, Ampang, near here yesterday.

Ampang Jaya police chief Mohamad Farouk Eshak said police had also identified 20 other witnesses who would be called up soon to have their statements recorded.

“Those with information related to the incident are urged to come forward to the Ampang Jaya district police headquarters to assist in the investigation. Further investigations are continuing,” he said in a statement here today.

Two men were killed after two helicopters collided in mid-air at about noon yesterday, causing one to crash and the other to make an emergency landing. The dead were the pilot of the crashed helicopter, retired navy commander Mohamed Sabri Baharom, 56, and his passenger, businessman Mohd Irfan Fikri Mohamed Rawi, 41.

Former Malaysian Airline System chief executive Ahmad Jauhari Yahya, 66, and his woman passenger, Tan Chai Eian, 51, were slightly injured.

A post-mortem on the two victims was carried out today and the remains of the deceased were handed over to their families for funeral, police said.

Mohamad Farouk urged the public to not spread videos or photographs of the crash on social media to avoid speculations and unwanted comments that might affect investigations.
