PETALING JAYA:
Former federal minister Salleh Said Keruak says there is no need for any “confidence and supply agreement” (CSA) with Pakatan Harapan (PH) to ensure support for the 2021 budget.

Salleh said the terms set by PH went against the spirit of cooperation shown by other parties.

He said any offer to support Putrajaya for a “unity budget” should not come with terms and conditions unfair to the government.

Salleh, who is also a former Sabah chief minister, said proposals can be taken into account and considered if there is room for compromise, although the priority should be to serve the interests of the people and nation.

“PH’s terms in the CSA go against the spirit of cooperation shown by other parties, especially Barisan Nasional (BN), which has decided to give its support for the unity budget.

“If the CSA is signed, that means (Prime Minister) Muhyiddin Yassin admits that he has failed to secure the confidence and support of comrades in the government, and this is what the opposition wants.

“On this basis, BN has collectively rejected the CSA suggestion proposed by the opposition,” he said in a blog post today.

Salleh urged all parties to unite in ensuring that the budget is passed so that the nation can overcome the Covid-19 pandemic and its economic effects.
