All 222 MPs told to stay away from functions, gatherings

Speaker Azhar Harun says the instruction follows advice from the health ministry.

MPs have been told to restrict their movements inside and outside the Parliament building until the meeting ends in mid-December.
KUALA LUMPUR:
All 222 MPs have been told not to hold any functions or gather in crowded areas whether inside or outside the Parliament building until the meeting ends in mid-December.

Deputy speaker Azalina Othman Said read the instruction this morning from a text written by speaker Azhar Harun, who said the advice came from the health ministry.

“MPs can no longer have functions in and out of Parliament,” Azalina said, urging the members to follow the SOPs.

She said they were also told to limit their movements while out of the building.

All the MPs and parliament staff will also be required to undergo Covid-19 medical swaps every two weeks.

Azalina said an evaluation will be carried out if there is a further positive case, and that the Parliament building may be shutdown in case of a new infection.

The Dewan Rakyat sittings have been shortened to lunch hour since Monday with proceedings taking place from 10am to 1pm.

The 2021 budget is scheduled to be tabled on Friday.

The debating hours for the Supply Bill remain unknown after Putrajaya initially said there were several staff members who tested positive in the Parliament building.

It was later disclosed that an aide to a senator had tested positive.
