PETALING JAYA:
Malaysia has been named the best destination in Asia for business events at the 2020 M&C Asia Stella Awards.

In a statement, Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB) CEO Abdul Khani Daud said the country again lived up to its aspirations of becoming the preferred business events hub in Asia.

Malaysia, he added, also nabbed the Best Meetings Hotel award, which went to the Grand Hyatt Kuala Lumpur.

The M&C Asia Stella Awards 2020 was hosted via a virtual setting and broadcast live across the region on Oct 20.

Though 2020 has been challenging for many industries because of Covid-19, Khani noted that the government was able to quickly adapt to “the new normal” by working with industry players to implement measures and promote Malaysia as a safe destination.

“To ensure the resilience and growth of our business events industry, we are running the ‘Meet in Malaysia’ campaign, focusing on efforts to stabilise and support the entire meetings, incentives, conferences and events (MICE) supply chain, engaging all industry international meeting and event planners.”

Khani hoped the award would spur industry partners to reach for greater heights so that the entire MICE industry could emerge stronger and contribute to the nation’s economic growth.
