Palm oil mill director, 2 workers remanded in probe on river pollution

Reports said Sungai Kundang in Selangor had been contaminated by biodiesel substance from industrial area.

Odour pollution believed caused by industrial discharge had been discovered in Sungai Kundang, Selangor.
KUALA LUMPUR:
Three men, including a company director, have been remanded for seven days from today to facilitate the investigation into pollution in Sungai Kundang, Rawang.

The remand order was issued by magistrate Nur Hafizah Rajuni.

The company director, aged 67, and two workers of a palm oil mill were arrested at 3pm yesterday for investigation under Section 430 of the Penal Code for allegedly committing mischief by causing a diminution in the supply of water for human beings and animals.

They face imprisonment of up to 30 years, or a fine, or both, if found guilty.

According to reports, preliminary investigation by the Selangor Water Management Authority found that the odour pollution was caused by biodiesel substance of over 10 TON, suspected to be from the Kundang Jaya industrial area.
