PETALING JAYA:
The authorities arrested 688 people yesterday for various offences under the recovery movement control order (RMCO).

Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said 678 of them were slapped with compound fines while the remaining 10 were remanded.

In his press statement, the minister said the offences included failure to practise social distancing, not wearing face masks, failure to record the particulars of customers and crossing states or districts without permission.

Ismail said that 10 foreigners were arrested by enforcement agencies during joint operations (Ops Benteng) yesterday. The authorities also seized five vehicles.

He said 54,312 people had returned to Malaysia between July 24 and Oct 24. They were placed under quarantine at 65 hotels and 17 public training centres.

Of the total, 381 individuals are now seeking treatment in hospitals, while 45,248 have returned to their homes.

Ismail also said the Construction Industry Development Board conducted checks on 36 sites across the country. Thirteen sites had complied with the SOPs while 23 sites were not operating any more.
