In a statement, Amiruddin said he has sent a letter to the Dewan Rakyat speaker, requesting for the motion to be allowed in the coming parliamentary sitting.
“This effort is to return the people’s mandate obtained in the 14th general election,” he said, adding that the present government was incompetent and unstable.
“They are on a knife-edge,” he said, attaching his letter to the speaker.
In his letter, Amirudidn, a former deputy finance minister, said he is seeking the motion to determine that Muhyiddin does not have the support of the majority of MPs.
Previously, former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad also sought a motion of no confidence against Muhyiddin.
On Sept 25, Gua Musang MP Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah wrote to speaker Azhar Harun asking for a “guarantee” that the no-confidence motion proposed by Mahathir, the Langkawi MP, would be raised during the next Dewan Rakyat meeting.
However, Azhar has asked Tengku Razaleigh to consult with de facto law minister Takiyuddin Hassan on getting the no-confidence motion tabled and debated.
He said he was bound by the rules of the Dewan Rakyat and had “no problem” considering such motions if all government affairs are completed or if there is a motion by a minister under Regulation 14 (2) to prioritise private motions.
