Petaling district, in the centre of the Klang Valley, houses 1.6 million people and includes the cities of Petaling Jaya, Subang Jaya and Shah Alam, and the mukims of Bukit Raja, Sungai Buloh, Damansara and Petaling.
The ministry said all schools with hostels including those in vocational colleges will also be closed. Parents are asked to take their children home from the affected schools.
“However, students waiting to be picked up by their parents or students who wish to remain in the hostels and vocational colleges through the school closure period will be under the care of their wardens.
“All food and drink necessities of the students throughout this period will be provided by the school staff,” it said in a statement.
It added that the affected schools may also reschedule their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) trials to a more appropriate time.
The ministry urged all school principals to ensure that lessons are carried out from home, using the prepared manuals and texts available at the ministry’s website.
