PETALING JAYA:
The Catholic Church will suspend all weekend and weekday masses in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor from tomorrow in view of the rise in Covid-19 cases.

Archbishop of Kuala Lumpur Julian Leow did not give a specific period but said the suspension will be reviewed before Oct 20.

Churches in Pahang, Negeri Sembilan and Terengganu will be allowed to continue with their masses although they are advised to pre-register worshippers.

“Live-streaming of masses will continue for the benefit of those who are unable to attend mass in person.

“Catholics residing in Kuala Lumpur and the state of Selangor are requested to refrain from travelling to neighbouring states to attend mass to avoid the risk of transmissions,” Leow said in a statement today.

He said weddings should be postponed if possible or limited to immediate family members or not more than 20 people if they cannot be deferred.

Funerals should only be attended by family members and not exceeding 20 people.

Those who are considered high-risk will not be allowed to attend these ceremonies, Leow said.
