PETALING JAYA:
The higher education ministry has urged higher education institutions to postpone all physical and face-to-face student admissions, given the increase in Covid-19 cases in the country.

In a statement, the ministry said the decision was made following concerns voiced by students, parents and the public following the rise in infections, just a few days before the admission date for new university students.

“The ministry suggests that all higher education institutions postpone physical or face-to-face registrations of new and old students on campus for the time being.

“All registration matters can be carried out online, as well as aspects of teaching and learning, until the end of the month or until a new announcement regarding this issue is made.

“This decision to postpone physical or face-to-face registration of students had to be made for the sake of protecting the well-being and safety of all parties.”

It said students currently on campus were allowed to stay, and requested university staff to assist the students with their needs.

The ministry added that it had negotiated with airlines to reschedule all student flights until Dec 31, especially for those who had bought tickets to return to campus.
