Peter, who was elected to the Melalap seat on Saturday, has been Safa president since 2018. During his tenure the Sabah team won the Malaysian Premier League last year.
Peter said that he did all that he could for the association and expressed hope it would continue to progress under a new president.
He went on to say that the Covid-19 crisis had scuttled plans to further develop Safa after the President’s Cup and Youth Cup competitions were scrapped.
