Hajiji keeps people guessing on GRS CM candidate

Sabah PN chief Hajiji Noor says the candidate will only be announced later today before the swearing-in at the state palace.

Sabah PN chief Hajiji Noor, who won the Sulaman seat, is one of the possible candidates to fill the CM post.
KOTA KINABALU:
Sabah Perikatan Nasional chief Hajiji Noor kept the guessing game going over the chief minister candidate shortly after Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) clinched a simple majority to form the state government yesterday.

Hajiji, who is also Sabah PPBM chief, said the candidate for the hot seat will only be announced later this morning.

“On behalf of all the parties in GRS, I will announce our CM candidate tomorrow (Sunday) to be sworn in before the Sabah governor,” he told reporters here early this morning.

When asked what time the announcement would be made, he said: “We will announce tomorrow before we go to the state palace for the swearing-in.”

To another question if the candidate had been agreed by GRS ally Barisan Nasional, specifically Umno, Hajiji said: “Insyallah, there is enough numbers for a swearing-in.

“But because it’s already late at night now, so we will do it tomorrow morning … let it (the CM issue) be a riddle.”

Earlier, GRS, which is made up of PN, BN and PBS, had won 38 seats to clinch a simple majority to form the state government.

Out of the 38 seats, PN won 17 seats followed by BN with 14 seats and PBS seven seats.

Warisan Plus won 32 seats, comprising 23 seats for Warisan, six by DAP, two by PKR and one by Upko.

On why the press conference yesterday was not held together with BN, Hajiji said it was due to many of the assemblymen still being out of town, adding they will wait for everyone to return and do the announcement together.

Meanwhile, Hajiji, who won the Sulaman seat, said the win by GRS showed that Sabahans understood the need for a change in the state government.

He thanked the people for giving GRS the mandate to rule Sabah.
