78 nabbed for MCO-related offences

PETALING JAYA:
Police arrested 78 people for various offences under the recovery movement control order (MCO) yesterday.

In a statement, Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said 74 people were fined and four remanded.

Those rounded up were held for being involved in activities in pubs or nightclubs, failing to practise physical distancing, failing to wear face masks in public and leaving the house in a targeted enhanced movement control order area without a valid reason.

Other offences include operating businesses beyond permitted hours and failing to record the particulars of visitors.

A total of 3,109 compliance task force teams involving 13,411 personnel conducted checks at 56,484 premises, including supermarkets, restaurants, hawker stalls, factories, banks, government offices as well as land, water and air transport terminals.

Meanwhile, Ismail said border control teams detained 42 illegal immigrants and two smugglers yesterday, while also seizing nine vehicles.

On mandatory home quarantine, he said 34,027 people who arrived through KLIA were screened for Covid-19 from July 24 to Sept 24.

Of the total, 7,593 are currently undergoing mandatory quarantine. Another 103 were admitted to hospitals for treatment and 26,331 allowed to go home.
