In a statement today, MACC said the accused will be charged under Section 10(3)(b) of the Whistleblower Protection Act 2010 (Act 711).

According to the MACC, the charge is the first since the act came into force in 2010.

“MACC is deeply concerned about the problems faced by whistleblowers, should they be punished for exposing corruption committed by certain parties,” it said.

The anti-graft agency added that it would not hesitate to investigate those who attempt to take action against whistleblowers.

It said this case would encourage the public to cooperate with enforcement agencies to provide information on cases involving corruption and abuse of power without any fear.

“The charges in this case are also expected to teach a lesson to those who try to punish whistleblowers,” it said.
