The notice was sent by the lawyers of the university’s senior vice-president Gail Phung, demanding Ong to pay RM50 million in compensation and damages.
In a statement today, Ong said he was “not agreeing or disagreeing” with a tweet which he referenced in his Twitter post.
“I was referencing the tweet to give context to the accusations raised so that the relevant authorities in Malaysia can be made aware of this case and conduct the necessary investigations,” he said.
He said he will not issue a public apology as he believed the matter was of public interest and in line with his role as an MP.
“I have instructed my lawyer, Syahredzan Johan, to reply to the notice issued by the lawyers of Gail Phung and state my position on the legal notice issued to me.”
