
Its deputy minister Zahidi Zainul Abidin said it was a measure to raise funds to help the B40 group, as well as to improve telecommunications infrastructure in rural areas.
“We are discussing plans to find alternative resources that will not burden the people. We also want to give the best services to them,” he told reporters after attending the Kelantan-level Merdeka@Komuniti programme in Pengkalan Petah here today.
“So, the 20 sen will be like a service charge. If the purchase exceeds RM1,000, then an additional 20 sen will be charged to make it a total of 40 sen.”
He said there will be no charge imposed for purchases costing below RM200.
