PPBM may allow non-Malays to hold party positions, says Muhyiddin

Non-Malays are now allowed to join the party as associate members but they cannot hold leadership positions.

PPBM president Muhyiddin Yassin says a proposal is being drafted to amend the party constitution.
KUALA LUMPUR:
PPBM may amend its constitution to allow non-Malays to hold leadership positions, its president Muhyiddin Yassin said.

Non-Malay leaders would then be able to hold leadership positions in that chapter.

Addressing the Kongres Negara 2020, Muhyiddin said a proposal to form a new party chapter will be drafted. If it is accepted, an extraordinary general meeting will be called to amend the party constitution.

Presently, PPBM allows non-Malays to join the party as associate members but they cannot hold leadership positions.

Muhyiddin said a special task force to work on the proposed amendments will be formed and led by supreme council member Rais Yatim.

“At a recent meeting of the PPBM supreme council, I suggested the possibility of allowing associate members to contribute ideas not just as normal members, but with a role in leadership, to shape a new chapter in PPBM.

“We have decided to form a new chapter that will allow associate members to hold positions and contribute ideas to advance the party.”
