PETALING JAYA:
Former prime minister Najib Razak today criticised those who have turned their backs on Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN) just to be closer to Pakatan Harapan (PH), saying that is not a “good hijrah” or migration.

The Pekan MP said in a Facebook post in conjunction with Maal Hijrah 1442 that Malaysians must appreciate the real meaning of “hijrah” to avoid being deceived by empty promises.

He called on the people to return to Umno and BN, saying they were the better option as they were able to ensure public welfare.

He said retrenchments, withdrawals of government assistance and rising unemployment despite promises of a million job opportunities as well as Islamic assets being auctioned off were proof that the PH government was a poor choice.

He also said Malaysians were deceived by the promise that their debts with the National Higher Education Fund Corporation and Felda would be resolved.

Citing the journey of Prophet Muhammad and his followers from Mecca to Medina, Najib said: “Some have left Umno, some have left BN just to approach PH.

“Maybe they thought it was a better option. But this is not ‘hijrah’ because those who announced their switch will not help the country. It will not help the people.

“In conjunction with Maal Hijrah, I invite all Malaysians to appreciate the real meaning of ‘hijrah’.”
