MBSA assistant enforcement officer remanded over alleged protection racket

The officer has been remanded to facilitate investigations for the Sungai Buloh illegal gambling case.

PUTRAJAYA:
An assistant enforcement officer from the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) has been remanded to facilitate investigations into allegations of taking bribes to protect illegal business operators in Sungai Buloh.

The remand order, effective from today until Aug 19, was issued at the Magistrate’s Court here.

The 38-year-old man was arrested yesterday at about 9.30pm at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) headquarters after giving his statement.

Yesterday, five individuals including four MBSA enforcement officers were remanded for seven days to facilitate investigations into the same case.

A recent video clip posted on Hot Burger Malaysia’s Facebook page and shared on 42-year-old Mohd Asri Hamid’s account under the name of “Asri Janggut” had claimed that the authorities did not take any action against gambling activities in Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh and instead received bribes from illegal gambling syndicates.

Following the disclosure, MACC and Bukit Aman’s Integrity and Standards Compliance Department conducted investigations into the allegations.
