Active Covid-19 cases continue to dip as more discharged

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah says there were 23 recoveries over the past 24 hours.

PUTRAJAYA:
The health ministry today announced six new Covid-19 cases, with no case involving migrant workers in the country.

This brings the infection tally to 8,606 with 191 active cases still receiving treatment as of noon today.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said no new deaths were reported, with the toll remaining at 121.

He also said 23 recoveries were recorded over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of discharged patients to 8,294 or 96.4% of the total number of cases.

Noor Hisham said that of the six new cases, five were imported cases involving four Malaysians and a non-citizen allowed in for work purposes.

The sixth case involved a Malaysian detected during workplace screening.

“There were no cases among foreign workers reported today,” he said at a press conference.

He said Malaysia was progressing well, with single-digit new cases during the past few days.

The recovery rate was also the highest in the Asean region, he said, and the death toll among the lowest in the world. “For the past 12 days no new deaths have been reported.”

“Also, for the first time since the MCO, we have fewer than 200 active cases (in hospital). This is due to the exit strategies and soft landing measures taken.”

Adherence to SOPs had also helped to reduce the spread of the virus, Noor Hisham said, adding that this had allowed more sectors to reopen.
