Bernama reported that the lorry driver, who was in a Perodua MyVi, was stopped by security guards at the main gates at 7.40am.
When they prevented him from entering, the suspect slammed his car against the gates, breaking the chain and lock, and sped towards the porch where men from the police crime prevention patrol unit were on standby.
They stopped the car and tried to grab the man who aimed the fake pistol at them, and managed to arrest him after a scuffle.
Bernama quoted Kuala Kangsar district police chief Razali Ibrahim as saying initial investigations showed the suspect was from Gerik with no criminal record.
He said the suspect claimed he crashed through the palace gates because he had been “summoned” to see the sultan.
Razali said police were carrying out further investigations, including obtaining the suspect’s medical records, but did not suspect he had a mental health condition.
He said the man tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
