Kids among 1,300 undocumented migrants nabbed in immigration raid

Immigration DG says they will all be deported and blacklisted from entering the country again.

PETALING JAYA:
The immigration department says 1,368 undocumented migrants, including 98 children, were arrested in a raid around the Selayang wholesale market yesterday.

Of these, 790 were from Myanmar, followed by Indonesians (421), Bangladeshis (78), Indian nationals (54) and Pakistanis (six).

Immigration director-general Khairul Dzaimee Daud said they were brought to the Federal Territories Immigration Department to be processed.

“Among the offences committed included not possessing identification documents, overstaying and possessing fake documents,” he said in a statement today.

He said those detained would be probed under several laws including the Immigration Act and the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act 2007.

“They will be deported to their country of origin after finishing their sentences and will be blacklisted from entering the country again.”

Khairul added that those who had been arrested were among 7,551 inspected.

All of them tested negative for Covid-19.
