Some law firms can operate, but with conditions, says PMO

PMO issues guidelines on how law firms in green zones involved in conveyancing and corporate matters can operate during the MCO period.

Employees of law firms who come to work must have their temperatures taken before entering the office.
PETALING JAYA:
Law firms involved in certain types of conveyancing and corporate cases are allowed to operate during the current phase of the movement control order (MCO) period.

The Legal Affairs Department in the Prime Minister’s Office, in issuing guidelines for legal firms on operations between April 15 and 28, said: “Law firms situated in green zones are allowed to operate twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10am to 4pm.”

A green zone is a district with zero Covid-19 cases.

The firms will need to keep a record of employees who come to work and the number of employees in the office must not exceed 20% if the firm has more than 21 staff members.

For a firm that has one to 21 employees, only three to six are allowed to come to work.

The guidelines state that clients can meet their counsels at the firm on urgent matters and only one person at a time.

“The firms must prepare hand sanitiser in the office and take the body temperature of those present in the office,” it said, adding that staff who have fevers need to be taken to a government clinic.

Earlier, the international trade and industry ministry said companies in additional sectors allowed to operate in the third phase of the MCO would be required to seek government approval from April 13.
