All eyes on Agong after Dr M sends resignation letter

It comes after a meeting with Pakatan Harapan leaders at his residence.

KUALA LUMPUR:
Dr Mahathir Mohamad submitted his resignation letter to the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong today, following a meeting with PKR president Anwar Ibrahim this morning.

It is now up to Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah to decide whether to accept the resignation.

This comes amid intense speculation of a new coalition following a flurry of political meetings yesterday.

A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office said Mahathir had submitted his resignation letter at 1pm.

This follows a meeting yesterday between leaders from PPBM, PAS, Umno and those aligned with former PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali, amid intense speculation that a shift in political loyalties would be announced.

Supporters of Anwar had also held a prayer session at his home in Bukit Segambut, in Kuala Lumpur, where the PKR president lashed out at attempts to betray Pakatan Harapan.
