A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office said Mahathir had submitted his resignation letter at 1pm.
This follows a meeting yesterday between leaders from PPBM, PAS, Umno and those aligned with former PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali, amid intense speculation that a shift in political loyalties would be announced.
Supporters of Anwar had also held a prayer session at his home in Bukit Segambut, in Kuala Lumpur, where the PKR president lashed out at attempts to betray Pakatan Harapan.
