KUALA LUMPUR:
Former minister Kasitah Gaddam is seeking a settlement over the government’s application to forfeit RM100,000 from him, money the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) said was from 1MDB.

His lawyer, Sasila Basri, told the High Court here that a representation would be made to the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) as soon as possible.

“We were informed yesterday that our first representation letter was rejected,” said Sasila.

Judicial Commissioner Ahmad Shahrir Mohd Salleh set March 3 to hear the forfeiture suit.

Deputy public prosecutor Nik Haslinie Hashim informed the court that the prosecution had last year gazetted the notice to call interested parties to contest the forfeiture application.

Both the prosecution and defence have filed their submissions for the forfeiture application hearing.

MACC is seeking to recover RM270 million from 41 individuals and organisations in funds allegedly channelled from former prime minister Najib Razak‘s account.

The anti-graft body also issued compound notices to recover RM420 million of alleged 1MDB money channelled to 80 individuals and organisations.

Pontian MP Ahmad Maslan and Umno vetaran politician Shahrir Samad were charged in court after they refused to return the money.
