“In line with the government’s initiative to empower the cooperative movement, the Cabinet has agreed on the ministry of entrepreneur development being rebranded to the ministry of entrepreneur development and cooperatives,” Bernama quoted the ministry as saying in a statement today.
It was reported that the ministry decided to table the proposal to rebrand itself at today’s Cabinet meeting following requests from cooperative members, as there had been uncertainty on which ministry was in charge of cooperatives.
Minister Mohd Redzuan Yusof said previously that the rebranding was deemed important after receiving feedback from cooperative movements which played an important role in the country’s economy.
Redzuan said it was time for the rebranding as there were 6.1 million members under 14,237 cooperatives across the country.
