ALOR SETAR: The water level at dams in Kedah has dropped to 60% of their capacity after water was released to meet the irrigation needs of the state’s farms.
In a radio broadcast today, the menteri besar, Mukhriz Mahathir, said Kedah had experienced an unusually dry spell lately.
“Supposedly there was to be rain this month, and now it is the second season of planting padi, but the water supply is low due to less rainfall.
“We have to release water from the dam and if it continues without rain, we fear it will affect the first season of next year’s rice crop,” he said on Radio Malaysia Kedahfm here, today.
He urged everyone to pray for rain and for Muslims to perform the “solat hajat” prayers.
