E Meeriam Rosaline’s lawyer, RSN Rayer, told reporters that High Court judge Ahmad Bache had allowed the adjournment pending her application to be included in the suit.
“We are saying she has the right to intervene as we have another case in the Ipoh High Court where Tun (Samy Vellu) and Vell Paari were named as defendants.
“We are affected by the proceeding here, which is why she has to intervene in this proceeding,” he said.
The court fixed Jan 7 next year for case mention.
Meeriam, who was present in court today, filed the application to be included in the suit last Friday.
She told reporters that she had come “to see my husband and seek justice”.
In August, Meeriam filed a suit against Samy Vellu and Vell Paari seeking a declaration that she be given due recognition and accepted as part of the family.
She also sought access to Samy Vellu with no restrictions imposed by any other family member including Vell Paari.
She said Vell Paari had financially disempowered Samy Vellu and taken control of his finances since 2017. She also said Vell Paari had denied her payment of her monthly RM25,000 maintenance.
Vell Paari filed a lawsuit this month seeking an inquiry under Section 52 of the Mental Health Act to determine Samy Vellu’s state of mind.
He said Samy Vellu had been diagnosed with dementia due to Alzheimer’s disease two years ago and was not mentally fit to defend himself in two legal cases filed against him.
