Liew, who is Sabah deputy chief minister and Sabah PKR chief, said she had also spoken to Sabah PPBM chief Hajiji Noor about the matter.
“We agreed to give way to a Warisan candidate. I have also spoken to Amanah and DAP,” she told reporters after an event today.
She also said she would call for a formal meeting with Sabah PH component parties to discuss the agenda to endorse a Warisan candidate.
Sabah PPBM liaison committee secretary Ronald Kiandee yesterday said the party intends to contest the by-election, saying its Kimanis division had been very active since PPBM spread its wings to Sabah in April.
He also said Hajiji had conveyed PPBM’s intention to contest the by-election to party chairman Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
However, he said the party would abide by any decision made by the PH leadership on the matter.
Warisan president Shafie Apdal meanwhile said he did not oppose Sabah PPBM’s interest in the seat but maintained that discussions on seat allocations had been held with PH before the general election.
“It is up to Sabah PPBM. They can contest, but what is more important is winning. It’s all about fielding a winnable candidate.”
The Kimanis seat was won by Anifah Aman in last year’s general election. Anifah won the seat with a 156-vote majority in a three-cornered fight.
On Dec 5, a five-member bench led by Chief Justice Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat unanimously dismissed his appeal against an earlier election court ruling nullifying his victory in the May 9, 2018 polls.
Liew said today that Sabah PH had unanimously agreed to let Warisan contest the parliamentary seat.
“I don’t know about them (Sabah PPBM asking PH to let it contest the seat), but I do know that DAP has decided and I have decided.
“I have informed my president (Anwar Ibrahim),” she added. “We in Sabah exercise our autonomy.”
