PETALING JAYA:
Youth and Sports Minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has promised a detailed investigation into the display of a wrong Malaysian flag at a basketball tournament in Kuala Lumpur.

He described the incident as “shameful” and said it did not reflect the true Malaysian culture.

The flag – with a five-point star – had been displayed at the launch of the Lum Mun Chak Cup organised by the Malaysia Basketball Association (MABA) yesterday.

Speaking to reporters after an event at Saujana Putra in Kuala Langat today, Syed Saddiq said any action against the association would only be taken after several procedures had been carried out, Bernama reported.

Following the incident, MABA apologised to all Malaysians and basketball lovers on its website.

It said its live broadcast team had accidentally put up the wrong flag on the digital display.

“We apologise for this mistake and we take full responsibility for such actions. Please forgive us, as we are always striving to grow and develop the sport of basketball in Malaysia,” it said.
