KUALA LUMPUR:
Sarawakian businessman Bustari Yusof has forfeited RM3.7 million to the government in a settlement over funds believed to be from state investment arm 1MDB.

Deputy public prosecutor Allan Suman Pillai told the High Court here that the sum was agreed on and received from Bustari’s defence team as settlement for the government’s forfeiture application.

“The prosecution was also given instructions to unfreeze Bustari’s account,” he said.

High Court judge Collin Lawrence Sequerah then struck out the government’s forfeiture bid against the businessman and thanked both sides for reaching the settlement.

The businessman, the brother of former minister Fadillah Yusof and reportedly the right-hand man of former prime minister Najib Razak, had sought to settle the government’s forfeiture application for allegedly receiving RM11.9 million in 1MDB funds.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission is seeking to recover RM270 million from 41 individuals and organisations in funds allegedly channelled from Najib’s bank account.
