Perak police chief Razarudin Husain said the investigation papers were handed over to the state prosecution director in June.
Yesterday, it was reported that the family members of Siva Raja Raman, 30, who died in the Tapah prison in Perak on the day he was to be released, were still seeking answers as to why a court ordered inquest had not been held.
The family’s lawyer, M Visvanathan, said the family also wanted the authorities to produce the autopsy result, a sudden death report and an explanation for the delay in holding the inquest.
However, he said, they had been informed that these had yet to be done, despite instructions from the deputy public prosecutor to do so.
The reports, Visvanathan said, were crucial in conducting an inquest.
Speaking to FMT today, Razarudin said he would get his officers to follow up with the state prosecution director.
“An investigation paper was opened and it was investigated by an officer in Tapah. The sudden death report was given to the state prosecution director in June for further instructions.
“Perhaps the director gave further instructions to the investigating officer, I will ask the investigating officer to check with the director on this.”
Siva Raja’s family has given Health Minister Dzukefly Ahmad, Home Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department for legal matters Liew Vui Keong 30 days to respond to their demand for answers.
Failing this, they said they will take “further action”.
