Zuraida slams ‘selective’ PKR after 2 members sacked

The PKR vice-president asks why no action was taken against other party members involved in assault and soliciting bribes during party elections.

PETALING JAYA:
PKR vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin today hit out at her party, accusing it of being selective in taking disciplinary action against some of its leaders.

This followed PKR’s announcement that it had sacked central committee member Zakaria Abdul Hamid and ordinary member Ismail Dulhadi on a suggestion by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) following investigations into the duo.

Zakaria is also PKR’s Bera division chairman.

Zuraida said if it was true that MACC had suggested action against Zakaria and Ismail before they were found guilty in court, the party should also act against members who had broken the country’s laws.

“This includes cases of assault and soliciting bribes during party elections and other publicly known cases,” she said.

The sackings of Zakaria and Ismail, she added, would only raise questions about whether the party was being selective in taking disciplinary action.

“This is because action is only taken against certain individuals who are seen as siding with certain leaders.

“I denounce the party’s selective action and call for an immediate reform of the leadership if the party is to be saved.”

Zakaria and Ismail were investigated by MACC following allegations of graft during the party’s election last year.

PKR communications director Fahmi Fadzil said they were given the boot following a “thorough and complete” investigation.
