MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Azam Baki said the agency would send a letter of clarification to the PKR disciplinary board chairman so that future misunderstandings would not arise.
Azam said that MACC was only required to send reports of wrongdoing to government agencies or ministries, and not to any political party. “It is not the policy of the MACC to make such a report to any political party regarding its members’ misconduct,” he said.
Yesterday, PKR said two members were dismissed by the disciplinary board based on advice given by the MACC after it had investigated allegations of corruption laid against them.
The two who were dismissed were Bera PKR division leader Zakaria Abdul Hamid who was once political secretary to the works ministry, and an ordinary member from Pahang, Ismail Dulhadi.
PKR disciplinary chairman Ahmad Kassim said MACC had written to the party on Oct 23 about the alleged misconduct during last year’s party elections, while the party’s communications director, Fahmi Fadzil, said MACC had advised the party to look into the matter and take necessary disciplinary action.
Zakaria said he had not been informed about any report lodged against him with the disciplinary board, and he accused the party of having taken action without hearing his defence.
