
Sheringham, a former United and England forward, said both sides were “ex-professionals who still have pride in our play”.
“We want to do as well as we can whenever we put on the Man Utd jersey, especially against Liverpool,” he said at a welcoming ceremony yesterday.
“We’ll go for drinks and have fun later but on the field we’re very committed.”
Ex-Liverpool winger Luis Garcia promised fans they would have their money’s worth.
“On the field we’ll always try to beat the rivals and do our best. We will always try to beat United. That’s the most important – that competitiveness is still there.”

Other ex-United players are Champions League winners Wes Brown, Ronny Johnsen and Dwight Yorke while Liverpool also have David James and Emile Heskey in their squad.
Organisers expect the 22,000-seater Likas Stadium to be packed this Wednesday, with governor Juhar Mahiruddin and Chief Minister Shafie Apdal also expected to attend.
